Dr.
L. Dennis Higgins serves as a classroom teacher for the Twice-Exceptional
Child Project within the Albuquerque Public
School System in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In that capacity, he works
directly with students who are served by one of the twice-exceptional
school sites associated with the Albuquerque Public School system.
Dr. Higgins has been an Adjunct Professor for the University
of New Mexico since 1985. He continues to teach courses related to
gifted and talented children. He is the former coordinator for the Albuquerque
Public Schools Summer Programs for the Gifted and Talented. He served
as the Chairperson of the Futures Studies Division for the National
Association for Gifted Children and is past president of the Albuquerque
Association for Gifted Children. He was a classroom teacher of first-order
gifted children in the Albuquerque Public School system for 12 years and
Coordinator of the Twice-Exceptional Child Project for six years.
Dr. Higgins has produced numerous articles, book chapters,
and educational video and audio tapes/CDs which retain national distribution.
His classroom has been showcased for school districts and universities
including those from North Carolina, Montana, Arizona, New York, Colorado,
Kentucky and Oregon.
Dr. Higgins received his Doctorate of Education with
an emphasis in Gifted Education and Education Technology/Instructional
Design from the University of Northern
Colorado under the direction of Dr. George Betts.
